First, a license provides clarity about the library’s intentions to patrons who might have concerns about the visibility of their or their child’s work online. Perhaps even more importantly, though, a license signals a new kind of relationship between a library and a patron, in which the library acts as a platform and publisher by sharing a work more broadly than its creator could do on her own.
